Clan Trophies: SPDC 26.02 and MPDC 26.03

Hi there!

In the past two days two more trophies arrived at the clan trophy hall.

Last Sunday we had SPDC 26.02. The event was competing with a one off Modern event at the same time frame which was giving tons of prizes, this may explain why we had just six players showing up.

After two rounds of swiss with cut to top 4 my Hexproof Buriers got the gold medal beating Orzhov Extort, Red Deck Wins, White Winnies and 4 Colors ETB/Tempo on the way. The winner deck relies heavilly on enchanting hexproof creatures with powerful auras while using self-mill, Heliod's Pilgrim and graveyard recursion in the form of Auramancer, Font of Return and Wildwood Rebirth to have access to the cards it needs.

On the following day it was time for MPDC 26.03, this time with a healthy field of 20 players and a diverse selection of decks. The winner was beatnik bobby and his powerful WB Aura deck. This deck uses the best of what white and black auras have to offer and also takes advantage of the abilities of Auramancer and Heliod's Pilgrim and heroic creatures. Bobby faced WW Tokens, Mono Red, Gruul Beasts and an updated version of MyGalaxy's 4 Color ETB/Tempo deck, which is getting good results lately.

Gatherling doesn't show the numbers for all cards, so I had to guess some of them.

Both of this decks keep up with the trend of past weeks when White Winnies aura based decks dominated MPDC. The difference here is the addition of other colors for enchantment based removal, more access to the graveyard and hexproof. Anyway you need to be prepared to face huge lifelink creatures in order to succeed.

See you next time (hopefully next week)!

Clan Trophies: MPDC 26.01 and MPDC 26.02

Hi there!

Starting now, we are going to highlight all trophies earned by clan members in MPDC and SPDC. Hopefully this will be a nice tribute to the achievement of our members and a good way to keep you updated on the latest hot decks in Standard Pauper.

Season 26 started just like season 25 finished. GodZo, the greatest winner in past season took his updated White Weenie (or White Wine, as GodZo likes to call it) to victory on a remarkable 6-0 finish. GodZo led his deck in a field full of control until an easy finish against my Boros Tokens deck in the finals. GodZo's deck brings Sungrace Pegasus, Heliod's Pilgrim and Radiant Fountain from M15 to make WW even better with more lifelink and easier access to the auras he needs at the moment he casts the new cleric (which usually means Ethereal Armor). No heroics needed, neither Ajani's Presence.

Here is the deck list:

Land (20)
16 Plains
4 Radiant Fountain

Instant (6)
2 Celestial Flare
4 Gods Willing

Creature (26)
4 Auramancer
4 Daring Skyjek
2 Heliod's Pilgrim
4 Hopeful Eidolon
2 Keening Apparition
4 Sungrace Pegasus
2 Sunspire Griffin
4 Syndic of Tithes

Sideboard (15)
3 Beckon Apparition
2 Celestial Flare
2 Concordia Pegasus
2 Keening Apparition
2 Nyxborn Shieldmate
3 Razortip Whip
Enchantment (8)
4 Ethereal Armor
4 Pacifism

That's right, next week we had round 2 and White Weenie won again. This time piloted by BigBee (who had great success with this archetype in the Theros season) and again with undefeated record (7-0). There were great amounts of other WW decks and many Dimir Mill decks too, not an easy environment for sure. The main differences from GodZo's deck are Ajani's Presence in place of Daring Skyjek, giving more resilience to the other creatures and additions to the sideboard in the form of Eyes in the Skies and Smite.

Land (20)
16 Plains
4 Radiant Fountain

Instant (9)
2 Celestial Flare
4 Gods Willing
3 Ajani's Presence

Creature (23)
4 Auramancer
2 Heliod's Pilgrim
4 Hopeful Eidolon
3 Keening Apparition
4 Sungrace Pegasus
2 Sunspire Griffin
4 Syndic of Tithes

Sideboard (15)
3 Beckon Apparition
2 Celestial Flare
2 Concordia Pegasus
1 Keening Apparition
3 Razortip Whip
4 Eyes in the Skies
1 Smite
Enchantment (8)
4 Ethereal Armor
4 Pacifism

Season 25 had a diverse meta with many different winner decks. Season 26 starts with a dominating deck pretty soon. Be prepared to face WW in the next weeks.

Between both rounds we had the official return of SPDC, now on Sundays. The tournament had 9 players (a good number for starters, hopefully many more will join soon) and was won by WujekMZK and his Mono Black deck.

I hope bring you news of another clan trophy next week. Stay tuned!
